Salceda patriarch, 87

Barcia LEGAZPI CITY --- Former Polangui, Albay Mayor Jesus Saquido Salceda, Sr., 87, has gone to the Great Beyond on Sunday, Nov. 19, after battling illness at Cardinal Santos Hospital in Manila Fondly referred to as Lolo Jess by his constituents, the father of Albay Rep. Joey Salceda served as public school teacher for almost 40 years before joining politics in 1972. He was a strict teacher but kind and helpful to many whom he taught the value of education, incumbent Mayor Charilie Sampal of Polangui said. The elder Salceda as Polangui municipal councilor for 24 years from 1972 to 1991. He was elected as vice mayor for three years (1992 to 1995) and as town mayor for 9 years beginning, from 2001 to 2010, after which Sampal succeeded him. Lolo Jess is survived by his three children: Rep. Joey Sarte Salceda, Board Member Jesap Salceda, and Dr. Anna Maria Salceda Mella. Flags in the whole town were raised at half-mast to pay tribute to a dedicated and well-loved public servant.
