Libmanan District Hospital conducts mobile blood-letting activity
Through the collaborative works of Libmanan District Hospital and Bicol Medical Center, a mobile blood-letting activity was successfully conducted in Libmanan District Hospital on March 28, 2019.
Libmanan District Hospital is a provincially-managed hospital of the provincial government of Camarines Sur. The hospital conducts blood-letting activities twice every year, mostly targeting medical and non-medical staff as donors. For this year, the hospital also encouraged walk-in donors.
Rowilen Naya, a non-medical staff of LDH, shared her experience in donating blood. “In my three years of employment here, I always participate in their annual blood-letting program. There was a time in my life, after I had my baby, I needed blood transfusion. We really struggled looking for donors. It was a difficult situation for me and I don’t want other people to go through that. That is why I decided to donate blood as much as I can to help those who really need it.”
One of the objectives of the program is to ensure sufficient supply of blood bags in BMC in case a patient needs blood transfusion. Seventeen donors came and participated in the activity.
“This is my first time to donate and at first, I was really nervous,” shared Sunshine Joy Salva, 16 years old. “But knowing that I am helping others is really fulfilling. This will definitely not be my last to donate because I want to help more people.” Salva was accompanied by her guardian to give consent as she was still a minor.
The red blood cells or RDC are replaced every 120 days. Such is why eligible donors are highly encouraged to donate blood as it will not only help those who need transfusion, but will also be beneficial to the donors in cleansing their blood.
