Naga City --- Naga College Foundation President Mario C. Villanueva and Chair of the Board Atty. Carlo Villanueva bared the school’s plan to convert the NCF into a university in its coming 75th year foundation during the opening of its annex building campus in Magsaysay Avenue. The event was graced by officials from the City of Naga, Province of Camarines Sur and Commission on Higher Education who supported and endorsed the plan.

Inspired by a growing enrollment that now reach more than 8,500 the school is working on this plan by improving its academic curriculum, teaching infrastructure and methodologies. It is refining its management system based on ISO qualification criteria. Its secondary department is under the guidance of the La Salle University.

The NCF is known as the Den of the Tigers, the sports champion teams in Bicol Region that has been dominating and representing the Bicol University and Colleges Athletic League (BUCAL) in national sports tournaments particularly in Basketball. The school also exhibits its outstanding performance in professional career examinations. In the next couple of years, a College of Medicine is expected to open to add to its existing academic departments.

Naga College Foundation is a leading institution of higher learning started by its founder Dr. Melchor T. Villanueva 72 years ago. It started as Naga Teacher’s College, then changed its name into Naga College until it was converted into the present name Naga College Foundation. Dedicated for the poor and underprivileged, about 20% of its students are scholars with some of them finishing their courses as student assistants. It is known for its famous school band that lorded it over other school bands in the region.

A new Center for Corporate Social Responsibility of the school is manned by an NCF Alumnus. The Center has just completed its research, development and international adaptation of planning tools and methodologies for local economic and community development for LGUs to help the government’s poverty reduction program. The Center is intended to become a support unit for the upcoming Naga University Foundation.
