Albay puts up Digital Transformation Center

LEGAZPI CITY --- The Albay Capitol Building has a new Digital Transformation Center (DTC) offering free resources for individuals interested in acquiring computer skills or accessing information online.
The DTC, part of the Tech4ED initiative by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), has been recently launched and will be open to the public soon.
This makes Albay the first province in the Bicol region to establish a DTC.
Gov. Edcel Greco Lagman underscored the provincial government’s dedication to digital inclusivity and as proof of this, he announced plans to formalize the DTC by establishing an ICT department.
“Digitalization is a key priority for Albay. We have long planned for an IT office but are still awaiting funding,” Lagman said.
Rachel Ann Grabador, DICT director for Bicol region, emphasized the importance of the DTC in empowering local communities through the development of digital skills.
“By providing a platform for training in basic, intermediate, and advanced digital skills, we are ensuring that our community members are well-prepared to thrive in today’s dynamic digital economy,” Grabador said.
She said the DTC will improve job prospects and boost economic development in Albay.
“With up-to-date digital skills, Albay residents will become more competitive in the job market, leading to new employment opportunities and career growth,” Grabador said.
Grabador reiterated the DICT’s dedication to strengthening its partnership with the provincial government.
She pledged to prepare future participants with the skills needed to excel in the digital world through comprehensive training programs and capacity-building efforts.
“Together, we aim to cultivate a culture of continuous learning and development, ensuring that every Albayano can harness the transformative potential of technology,” Grabador said.
“I am confident that the DCT will serve as a catalyst for positive change and stand as a testament to our ongoing partnership and collaboration,” she concluded. (PIA5/Albay)
