BFP launches Fire Prevention Month, awareness campaigns

By Ryan Mostar

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Naga City officially launched the 2025 Fire Prevention Month with a grand Kick-Off Ceremony on March 1. The event featured a parade from the Naga City Fire Station to Plaza Rizal, participated in by various barangays, stakeholders, intern students from Naga College Foundation (NCF) and CBSUA Sipocot, and Naga White Fire Rescue.

According to SINSP Erwin I. Verzosa, Deputy Fire Marshal of the Naga City Fire Station, who spoke about the month-long observance, this year’s focus is on increasing fire safety awareness through various programs and community engagements. One of the key initiatives is Oplan Ligtas Pamayanan (OLP) On the Road, also known as the daily Bandillo. This program ensures fire trucks are visibly present around the city while spreading fire prevention reminders through public address systems. “This is done to increase awareness of the danger of destructive fires to lives and properties and to remind the community of the importance of fire safety,” Verzosa explained.

The BFP remains committed to promoting fire prevention through multiple approaches, including fire safety seminars and drills, fire safety inspections, building plan evaluations, and the Oplan Ligtas Pamayanan Program. The agency also hosts an Open House and the Fire Square Road Show, providing the public with hands-on learning experiences.

For educational institutions, students from kindergarten to high school are invited to visit the fire station and participate in the Fire Square Road Show, an interactive activity where they learn fire safety techniques firsthand. Businesses and residential areas benefit from Oplan Ligtas Pamayanan, fire safety inspections, and specialized seminars and drills to help prevent fire-related incidents.

Verzosa also highlighted the various public seminars offered by the BFP, covering essential fire safety topics such as:

• The benefits and dangers of fire

• The chemistry of fire and how it develops

• Basic Life Support training

• Basic Skills for Responders

“These workshops are designed to equip citizens with the knowledge and skills necessary to prevent fires and respond effectively in emergencies,” Verzosa added.

With these initiatives in place, the BFP continues to strengthen its mission of making Naga City a safer place by fostering a culture of fire safety awareness and preparedness. Residents are encouraged to participate in activities and stay informed on best practices for fire prevention.
