Sixteen shrines were represented in very first Bicol shrines assembly held at the Archbishop Legaspi Hall at the Minor Basilica and National Shrine of Our Lady of Peñafrancia on January 13.

Hosted by the Archdiocese of Caceres through the Minor Basilica and National Shrine of Our Lady of Peñafrancia, in the pilgrim city of Naga, the gathering was initiated by the Association of Catholic Shrines and Pilgrimages of the Philippines (ACSP)under the CBCP – Episcopal Commission on the Pastoral Care of Migrants and Itinerant People.
ACSP is the organization of minor basilicas, shrines and pilgrimage sites in the Philippines. It was founded in 1991 for the 1st World Congress of Shrines in Rome, 1992 by Bishop Gabriel Reyes, DD then Chairman of the Episcopal Commission of Migrants and Itinerant People (ECMI).
Themed “From Devotion to New Evangelization: An Updating of Shrines in the New Evangelization of the Church,” the event aimed at gathering shrine rectors and lay ministries in the Bicol. ACSP has been visiting across the country in local assemblies held per Diocese or per Region for the same purpose.
