LEGAZPI CITY --- At least 9,810 families affected by the shear line in Albay and Camarines Norte received food packs from the government through the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Bicol (DSWD-5) over the weekend.
In a media release on Monday, DSWD-5 Regional Director Norman Laurio said more than PHP7 million worth of relief assistance was provided to 37 barangays in the two provinces.
DSWD-5 personnel distributed PHP4,358,690 worth of family food packs (FFPs) to 6,139 families from 15 barangays in Malinao town in Albay province, who were severely impacted by the prolonged effects of the shear line from December 2024 to January 2025.
In Tabaco City, Albay, a total of PHP1,428,768 worth of family food packs (FFPs) were also simultaneously distributed to 1,968 families.
In Camarines Norte, over PHP1.3 million worth of FFPs were distributed to 1,703 affected fisherfolk and farmers in three barangays in Sta. Elena town.
The food packs were distributed to 550 farmers and fisherfolk from Barangay San Isidro, 583 from Barangay Don Tomas, and 570 from Barangay Tabugon.
“These areas experienced flooding and prolonged heavy rainfall brought by the shear line, which disrupted the livelihoods of these vulnerable sectors,” he said.
Laurio said the DSWD-5, through its Disaster Response Management Division (DRMD), is working around the clock to deliver relief assistance and resource augmentation to other economically affected communities in the region impacted by the shear line.
“The relief distribution aims to provide immediate support, particularly addressing the food needs of families whose livelihoods have been severely impacted by the prolonged heavy rains caused by the ongoing effects of the shear line in the region,” he added. (PNA)
