PILI, CAMARINES Sur --- A formidable father-and-daughter tandem is set to take center stage in the upcoming May 12, 2025 midterm and local elections, as former municipal councilor Annalyn Bongalonta runs for mayor, backed by her father, veteran politician and former mayor Tomas Bongalonta, who is vying for the vice mayoral seat.
The Bongalontas, known for their long-standing public service in Pili, have gained strong support from local leaders and residents rallying behind their candidacies. Annalyn emphasized that their decision to run as a team stems from their effective partnership in delivering meaningful programs to their constituents.
“We have witnessed how our brand of public service resonates with the people of Pili, and we are encouraged by the growing number of supporters who remain loyal despite efforts by our opponents to win them over,” Annalyn said.
If elected, Annalyn vows to continue and enhance her father’s legacy, particularly his youth development programs, including the pioneering Summer Youth Camp—a leadership training initiative that Tomas introduced during his first term as mayor in 1998. Pili remains the only municipality in Camarines Sur to host such a program.
She also assured continued support for senior citizens and farmers, particularly through the improved distribution of farm inputs and equipment.
A key priority in Annalyn’s platform is the establishment of a municipal hospital, a project she considers her personal advocacy to ensure accessible healthcare for Pili residents. Additionally, she plans to construct a central transport terminal to help decongest traffic in the town proper, aligning with Pili’s Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP).
However, she acknowledged that the CLUP’s repeated failure to gain approval has hindered the town’s progress. She stressed that businesses are waiting for its implementation to guide their investments and expansion plans.
Addressing concerns over possible political challenges, Annalyn recalled how her father was suspended multiple times during his tenure, allegedly due to political maneuverings by some quarters in coordination with some members of the local council.
“If elected mayor, I know I may face similar obstacles, but I will fight any unjust suspension orders legally,” she declared. “That is why we are committed to ensuring a full Team Bongalonta victory—to prevent political harassment and push forward with our vision for Pili.”
Tomas Bongalonta, who served as Pili’s mayor for three consecutive terms, remains a well-respected political figure. His return to public service as vice mayor is seen as a strategic move to further strengthen governance and continuity in the capital town of Camarines Sur.
