‘Laro ng Lahi’ brings childhood fun to Women’s Month event

SORSOGON CITY --- “Laro ng Lahi” highlights folk games played by Filipino children before the advent of gadgets and internet-based games.

On Saturday, sipa, sack races, guava relays and other games were featured during the celebration of Women’s Month in Sorsogon City, where lady cops competed against each other in an atmosphere of camaraderie and childhood fun.

“It was held to honor the strength of policewomen. Unlike the usual strenuous exercises, this event provided a fun and nostalgic way to stay active while promoting camaraderie,” said Police Maj. Christine Llorin, president of Pulis Kasanggayahan.

The event offered policewomen a much-needed break from their busy work schedules, an occasion referred to as “Juana-Off.”

“Juana-Off” is a holiday specifically for all female police officers in Sorsogon province, providing them with a day off to celebrate and recognize their contributions and services in law enforcement.

Nearly 200 people attended the event, including members of Kabataan Kontra Droga At Terorismo from various municipalities, as well as policewomen from different police stations throughout Sorsogon province.

In his opening remarks, Philippine National Police Provincial Director Col. Alex Daniel highlighted this year’s theme, “Babae sa Lahat ng Sektor, Aangat ang Bukas sa Bagong Pilipinas,” which serves as a call for unity, progress and ongoing change.

“When you empower a woman, you empower a nation. Every step taken by women is also a step toward a more progressive, equal and just future,” he said. (with a report from Romell Baria, PIA 5/Sorsogon)
