Legacion secures P37M school building for Pili school

By Jordan Domingo

Demonstrating his commitment to education and development, Mayor Nelson Legacion of Naga City, as chairman of the Metro Naga Development Council (MNDC), has expressed his willingness to assist the municipality of Pili in acquiring additional school infrastructure. This dedication was recently highlighted when he facilitated the funding of a nine-classroom school building for San Jose Pili National High School, a project worth P37 million from the national government.

The school, which serves over 1,800 students, has been grappling with a severe shortage of classrooms, forcing many students to attend classes in open spaces or makeshift venues. To accommodate the growing number of enrollees, the school has implemented a two-shift system, dividing students into morning and afternoon sessions.

School Principal Marijane Matucad underscored the significance of the project. “The new school building will provide a conducive learning environment for our students and alleviate the challenges we face. It will also help us teachers deliver better quality education,” she said.

Pili Mayor Tomas Bongalonta, Vice Mayor Francis Belen, and the municipal council extended their heartfelt gratitude to Legacion, describing his efforts as a testament to his selflessness and dedication to education. “Mayor Legacion’s unwavering support reflects his vision of prioritizing education not just in Naga but in neighboring municipalities like Pili. We are truly grateful for his help,” Belen said.

Engr. Romeo Doloiras, head of the DPWH 3rd District Engineering Office, announced that construction of the school building will begin soon and is expected to be completed by June 2025.

Mayor Legacion, who has championed the establishment of schools and construction of classrooms in Naga City, emphasized the importance of education in driving regional progress. “As chairman of the MNDC, I believe that ensuring access to quality education is vital for the development of our communities. This project is part of our collective effort to provide students with a proper and inspiring environment for learning,” he said.

With Legacion’s vision extending beyond city borders, the initiative not only addresses the immediate needs of San Jose Pili National High School but also highlights the potential of collaborative leadership in fostering educational advancements across the 3rd District of Camarines Sur.
