Newly appointed Caceres archbishop to dine with city, provincial officials

AFTER his arrival in the city, a luncheon will be conducted between Archbishop Rex Alarcon, Naga City Mayor Nelson Legacion and Camarines Sur Governor Luigi Villafuerte the day before his canonical installation as the new head of the Caceres said Monsignor Noeh Badiola, rector of the Basilica Minore of the Our Lady of Peñafrancia.

Badiola said that on May 1, Wednesday, the basilica will take Alarcon from St. Dominic de Guzman parish in Gainza, Camarines Sur – the first parish that serves under the watch of the Archbishop of Caceres.

He said that Alarcon, the new archbishop will undergo upon his arrival, expectedly at 10:00 in the morning, will face the image of Ina as one of the religious rites.

He added that a luncheon meal will be prepared for Alarcon to face and talk with the city and provincial officials through a civic reception at Archbishop Legazpi hall in the basilica, including other government officials in Bicol.

The church official reiterated that the luncheon will be a welcoming activity for Alarcon, who will tackle the needs of the people under his authority as a church leader.

Badiola said that the next day, at 9:00 in the morning, Alarcon will be canonically installed as the new archbishop of Caceres at Naga Metropolitan Cathedral. The installation will be headed by Archbishop Emeritus Rolando Tria Tirona.

On April 30, Wednesday, the image of Our Lady will be brought and paraded through a procession in Daet, Camarines Norte. On May 1, her image will also be visible in the streets of Legazpi City.

Badiola said that the activities are called “Pagsungko” or visitation to dioceses which were requested to be conducted during the processions.

Furthermore, he said that the activities were included in the gatherings in celebration of the centenary anniversary of the crowning of the virgin as “Queen of Bicolandia” on September 20, 2024.
