AS we commemorate the first death anniversary of Sir Nilo P. Aureus, we honor a man whose life was a profound testament to faith, generosity, and service. He was not just a devoted Catholic but a beacon of light, illuminating the lives of priests, religious, and laypeople alike in the Archdiocese of Caceres. His steadfast commitment to the Caceres Commission on Communications reflected his deep desire to spread the Word of God and uplift the community through faith-filled service.

He nurtured his faith with devotion, strengthening his spiritual foundation and inspiring others to walk in the path of Christ. His unwavering trust in the Lord became his anchor, especially in times of suffering. His love for God manifested in his selfless generosity, particularly toward the clergy, religious communities, and lay faithful. His unwavering support for various Church initiatives left an indelible mark on those blessed to know him.

Virtues and Values of NILO

N - Nurturing faith with devotion, strengthening the spiritual foundation of those around him.

I - Integrity in words and actions, embodying honesty, humility, and righteousness.

L - Love for God and neighbor, extending kindness, generosity, and compassion to all.

O - Obedience to God’s divine will, serving others selflessly and with unwavering faith.

Faith for Sir Nilo was not just about words but about action. He embodied the Gospel through honesty, humility, and integrity. He extended his generosity beyond his immediate circle, treating the staff and employees of Gold Print and Bicol Mail as his extended family. Much like St. Joseph, his leadership was marked by quiet strength, dedication, and unwavering service.

He believed that service to others was a fundamental expression of faith. He was a generous supporter of the Sisters of the Little Mission for the Deaf at the Joseph Gualandi School for the Hearing Impaired, ensuring that those in need were never forgotten. His compassion embraced persons with disabilities—the deaf, mute, and blind—as well as street children, juvenile delinquents, and persons deprived of liberty in the four jails in Caceres, including BJMP Naga, Tigaon, Iriga, and Tinangis Penal Farm. He extended his kindness to those living in the dumpsite in Balatas, offering hope where it was needed most.

Prayer was the foundation of Sir Nilo’s life. Even in his final moments, his faith remained steadfast. As he lay on his sickbed, with the Manto of Ina on his chest, he miraculously opened his eyes briefly, with a smile on his face and his mouth slightly open, as he attempted to join in singing the Immaculate Mother Hymn after the Religious Sisters prayed the Divine Mercy Chaplet and sung the Resuene Vibrante with his family and friends. His deep devotion to Ina, Our Lady of Peñafrancia, Patroness of Bicolandia, was evident until his last breath. His love for the Eucharist, and unwavering reverence for God were pillars of his spiritual life, guiding him in every moment.

He was deeply rooted in the Word of God, drawing wisdom and inspiration from Scripture and living according to God’s divine plan. His compassionate nature led him to reach out to those in need, whether through material support, mentorship, or a simple act of kindness. His faith was one of joyful evangelization—not only in words but in the way he lived his life, inspiring countless others to embrace Christ with open hearts.

At the heart of his spiritual journey was the Holy Eucharist, the source and summit of his Catholic faith. In receiving Christ’s Body and Blood, he found strength to serve others with boundless love and compassion. Jesus Christ, the perfect model of servant leadership, calls us to serve with love, and Sor Nilo exemplified this throughout his life, leaving behind a legacy of unwavering faith and generosity.Sir Nilo was also devoted to the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, St. Joseph, St. Francis of Assisi, St. Anthony of Padua, St. Thérèse of Lisieux, St. Benedict, St. Augustine, St. Ignatius of Loyola, St. John Paul II, and all the angels and saints. He sought their guidance and intercession, trusting in their prayers to bring him closer to God. His faith in the Guardian Angels was also evident, believing that they watched over and protected him and his loved ones.

Even after his passing, Sir Nilo P. Aureus’s memory continues to inspire. His life was a reflection of God’s grace—a life well-lived in faith, love, and service. May we honor his memory by following his example, living our faith with the same devotion, humility, and kindness.
