“I’ve learned to value discipline, especially in time management and considering others.

Dito sa (here in the) Philippine Navy as a reservist, nabago yong pagiging civilian ko (I have changed being a civilian) and I became part of the military-trained personnel,” she added.

All the navy reservists underwent training on drills and ceremonies, mass and basic formation, marksmanship, combat tactics, and land navigation or map reading.

Navy Reservists Classes 4 and 5 are composed mostly of Gryphon Bicol R5, Inc., members headed by its founder, reservist Manuel Amasa.

Amasa believes that every youth is a potential leader.

“We started in 2019 with a small group of recruits and have now grown into a thriving organization with over 2,000 members.,” he said.

“I believe that we simply need to tap into their potential and guide them in discovering it,” he added.

Commander Wendelboy Buntag, chief of the Naval Reserve Center Southern Luzon, lauded the new reservists for their perseverance and dedication.

“Continue to serve our country with pride and honor and dedication. Your contributions to safeguarding our nation and community development are truly commendable. We all need that,” Buntag said.

“Alam naman natin na hindi lahat ng development ng bansa ay nakasalalay sa military lang kundi sa civilian sectors at agencies of the government din (The country’s development depends on both the military and civilian sectors and government agencies),” he added. (PIA 5)
