Word of God’ should be core of every parish ministry - archbishop

A Catholic archbishop has called for a “serious and assiduous engagement” in the “promotion and deepening” of the Word of God in the parishes. In his message for this year’s Sunday of the Word of God, Archbishop Rolando Tria Tirona of Caceres said parishes can do so through “proclamation, Bible study and personal reflection”.
“A systematic promotion of the Word of God should be the core of every parish ministry,” Archbishop Tirona said. The parishioners, according to him, have the right to seek enlightenment and guidance on the Scripture through the pastors.

“Let us not fail our faithful in their desire to know and experience more the Word of God,” he said.
In September 2019, Pope Francis instituted the celebration of Sunday of the Word of God, which is held every year on the Third Sunday in Ordinary Time.
In his Apostolic Letter Aperuit illis, he said that the special day is to be “devoted to the celebration, study and dissemination of the word of God” and to the Sacred Scriptures.
Archbishop Tirona then called on the consecrated communities in the archdiocese “to renew their love for the Word of God and to be partners with our pastors in its promotion”.
He also encouraged the faithful, especially the catechists, “to welcome and live their lives guided, nourished and strengthened by the Word of God”.
